Heckler & Koch UMP is a submachine gun developed by the German company Heckler & Koch in the 1990s as an addition to the HK MP5 submachine gun family. The design of the new weapon was simplified, but at the same time more modern materials were used. The company planned to offer this model on the US police weapons market, which was due to the choice of ammunition used — popular in the USA.45 ASR and .40 S&W, a variant chambered in 9×19 mm Parabellum appeared a year later.
