Major Degtyarev is the protagonist of "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: The Call of Pripyat". Alexander Alexandrovich Degtyarev was born in Pripyat in June 1978, but was forced to evacuate and leave his hometown at the age of seven because of the Chernobyl accident. After the Second Explosion, he returned to the Zone again at the call of his soul, having gained quite a considerable experience of stalking, which subsequently helped him become an undercover SBU officer. After the failure of Operation Fairway, the purpose of which was to re-attempt to seize the Chernobyl nuclear power plant under military control after the failure of Operation Monolith, Degtyarev was sent to the Zone to find out the reasons for the failure of the operation. The Major was sent to the Area under cover. Unfortunately, the connection with the center has disappeared, and the major has to act alone. During his stay in the Zone, the major has a clearly set task: to find and inspect the crashed helicopters and the disappearance of their crews. At the end of the game, he is rewarded with the extraordinary rank of colonel. After that, he refuses the staff position offered to him and goes to the Zone as a permanent observer from the SBU.
