The first trolleybuses Ziu-682 with equipment on the roof became ZiU-5264 s-pulse thyristor choking electric control system, developed in the mid 90 's. But this model was too expensive for buyers. So in the year 2000 a modification of ZiU-682 trolleybus with equipment located on the roof-ZiU-682G-017.
For installation of electrical equipment on the roof of the Ziu-682G-017 reinforced body construction and abolished the front roof hatch. On the roof is the bulk of the traction electric equipment Kit-power resistors, static converter, GRK, automatic double pole switch. Also on the roof installed a special track, easy to move personnel in the depot.
The year 2002 was a modification of the designation of the Ziu-682G-016 (017) and on the nameplate is specified as XTU682G0M.
